Proclamations
The State of Texas document states as follows:
Sewing is a craft and a skill with a long and rich tradition. As a craft sewing has limitless potential and sewn objects can be beautiful works of art; as a skill, sewing is an economical way to make items for everyday use.
Through sewing we expand our avenues of expression and our creativity. Traditional and non-traditional sewing education programs play an invaluable role, fostering creativity among young Texans and furthering their opportunity for success. Sewing students learn important skills that promote excellence in many other parts of life.
To promote awareness of the value of this art, and to support the tradition of home sewing as a valued part of American culture, and awareness campaign will be conducted during the month of September.
At this time therefore , In encourage all Texans to recognize the role of the craft of sewing throughout the history of our great state and the importance of sewing today as an invaluable skill.
Therefore, I Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim September 2006, National Sewing Month in Texas and urge the appropriate recognition whereof”

The City of Corpus Christi document states as follows:
Whereas, the local Corpus Christi Chapter of the American Sewing Guild is honoring the celebration of this year's National Sewing Month by arranging a community service project making bags for wheelchairs and walkers; and because this gives our local chapter an opportunity to contribute to community service sewing projects as a common “thread”; and
Whereas, Corpus Christi's local chapter is honored as the “Large Chapter of the Year” which demonstrates their success and belief that sewing is a rewarding and creative activity; and because our local chapter welcomes members of all skill levels and many walks of life to include a junior membership which gives our youth the opportunity to learn new skills, network with others who share an interest in sewing, and just bask in the enjoyment of sewing; and
Whereas, Membership in the American Sewing Guild gives participants an opportunity to experience their love of any type of home sewing with others who share the same interest.
Now, Therefore, pursuant to the powers vested in me as Mayor of the City of Corpus Christi, I do hereby proclaim, September, 2006 National Sewing Month In Corpus Christi Texas and urge all citizens to thank the Corpus Christi Chapter of the American Sewing Guild for donating their “Sew Be It” time for this worthwhile community service project.
