After several weeks of getting together and planning with ViAnn
Hermann and Marcia Mayes, the day had arrived to see our
plans come to fruition. The September Style Show and New
Member Tea honoring those ladies who had joined the
guild since January of this year was about to happen.
Our regular meeting room in the recreation center had been
transformed into a pink hued banquet hall, the tables were
adorned with a floral centerpiece and pink programs topped
with the packaged table favors. The serving tables were
laden with all sorts of goodies that everyone soon enjoyed.
The models (in groups of four) disappeared behind the
partition wall and emerged one at a time to showcase
their creations. In between groups many great door prizes
were given away. Marcia Mayes donated some of her
trademark totes and Gail Cargile donated some
beautiful teacups and saucers....very appropriate for the
occasion. There were also some other sewing related
prizes brought by Flora Boren. They had been donated
by various vendors at seminars she has attended.
The first of our models was Teresa Beck who wore a round
yoke blouse made from fabric she had purchased at
Becky Aguilar's store, Heirloom Elegance. The lace detail
on the yoke and sleeves was exquisite.
Carolyn Kennedy (Teresa's sister) modeled square neck pink cotton
dress she made from the ASG pattern.

Next came Flora Boren wearing a white linen skirt, a white
blouse with some embroidered interest and topped with
a lightweight blue jacket...she had made this ensemble
especially to wear to the national conference this summer.

Tammy Conolly wowed us twice, first with an outfit that
featured pants made from a beautiful silk fabric purchased
in India and a jacket whose lining with a peacock feather
design was just as nice as the outside. Then later in the
show she modeled an outfit that she wore for her role
in the play “Miracle on 34th Street” at the Harbor Playhouse.

Lupe Contreras wore a two piece outfit that she plans to
wear on her travels. After a fitting clinic session and
an adjustment on the sleeves for a more flattering fit her
outfit was well tailored and casual at the same time. The
icing on the cake were the “paisley butterflies” she
embroidered on the top near the shoulder area and
the hem area of the pants.

The second group of members included Patty Dunn who
wore her own original design. It was a bias cut jacket in a
fabulous red fabric that only enhanced the drape and design.

Stella Garret followed with a jacket and skirt in a
reddish/cinnamon color that changed with the light.
Ida Hansen was the picture of cool summer casual in
her yellow top with a lace collar detail that only
added to the “airy-ness” of the blouse.

ViAnn Hermann's creativity was displayed in her jacket
which had started life out as a dress then was shortened
into a skirt when ViAnn spied it being worn by a fellow
church member. ViAnn oohed and aahed over the
skirt after the service and a few Sundays later the lady
was compelled to give it to ViAnn. She took that
skirt and transformed it into a work of art which is
what she had coveted to begin with....all around the
jacket is a café scene reminiscent of a Renoir or
Toulouse-Lautrec painting. The free motion stitching and
embellishments on the jacket were the crowning touch.
After a short break to allow the next group of models
to get ready and some door prize.

The show resumed with Mary Beth King modeling a black jacket and
black pants she made from a pattern that she
drafted after taking measurements from one of her
favorite pair of ready to wear pants.

Kae Martin came on stage next wearing a pair of wraparound
pants from a fabric with a border that she used to advantage.

Marcia Mayes looked ready for a dressy affair in a striped
jacket that had a matching companion handbag...one of
Marcia's trademark creations.

The last group included Carolyn Pence who wore a top made
from one of the 2006 ASG Simplicity patterns. It had a
small pleated feature in the center, adding just the right
amount of detail.

Nancy Schultz's jacket was made from Patty Dunn's Jacket
Junkie pattern. It was made of white linen with an equally
beautiful white lining with a diamond design. I might add
that during the class Nancy displayed her expertise in
setting in sleeves using Patty's instructions.

Maggie Wachtel sported a three piece outfit made from two
fabrics she purchased at a local quilt shop. Ingenuity
set in when a shortage of fabric for her blouse made it
necessary to combine the two fabrics. The results
an ensemble that flowed well.

Gail Cargile, who informed me that her sewing is geared mainly
toward home decorating modeled a pair of coveralls in two
contrasting blue and yellow print fabrics. The effect was
very country girl.

Last was Becky Aguilar who modeled a sheer bias cut jacket
made by Patty Dunn. Not knowing beforehand what the jacket
looked like, Becky decided to wear a white blouse and some
lime green pants she had made with fabric she stocks in
her store. As it turns out, one of the colors in the jacket
was a very similar green just a shade lighter.

As I close, I want to thank all the models for their participation
and especially want to thank Marcia and ViAnn for their
efforts in making this a fun and successful event.
