Creative comet flashes through the Corpus Christi ASG Chapter!
Bobbi Bullard's lecture and workshops left us overwhelmed and dazed with new ideas, new techniques and lots of fun new gadgets! We will never be the same again!
In her lecture on January 27th she spent the morning showing us unique gifts to make and explaining her approach and techniques. The ooohs and aaahs were deafening! The afternoon lecture focused on dazzling garments where she explained how the balance, integration, and spark of the embellishments enhance a garment. With her examples, she showed us the wrong way to embellish and then how to turn it into the right way. Whether it was stamps, inks, embroidery, or sparkles, we saw how the embellishment enhanced the garment. As so many of you said in your feedback comments, we learned to think outside the box!
Since we had so many ladies sign up for her workshop, Bobbi agreed to do two days of workshops. Forty lucky ladies took the workshop. Bobbi started the day with a one-hour lecture similar to a college art course on patterns, colors, layouts, and much more! Then, she challenged us to apply our new knowledge through a series of exercises. At first, it was difficult, nearly impossible, to create designs and then it became exhilarating to realize that we could let our imagination take flight! The afternoon part of the workshop was hands-on. We learned to stamp, to ink, to spray, to glitz and then we created our masterpiece…a scarf. Each scarf was unique and beautiful. My scarf will transform itself into bed pillows. Another will become a wrap for a gown.
Many thanks to Bobbi for bringing her creative genius to break down our walls and let our imagination soar!
Emma Seabrooke Returns!
Last year, Emma Seabrooke showed us her beautiful knit clothes and brought her patterns, notions, and knit fabrics to Corpus Christi. She measured us for her knit designer-tee shirt and taught us how to sew elegant neckline finishes and Slinky fabric. But…we wanted to learn more!
So, this year, Emma returned with her patterns, notions and knit fabrics. Once again, she measured anyone new to her patterns, but she also tweaked the fit for those who make her designer-tee last year. She did an entire day of individual fitting - from 10 in the morning until 6 at night! She worked on our pants, tops and skirts!
Then, in our workshops, we learned how to take our designer tee pattern that fit and change the neckline so that we can make a zillion tees and never look the same! In addition to changing the neckline shape, we added pleats to our shoulders, created a wing placket and transformed a jewel neck into a cowl.
Our afternoon workshop focused on Emma's tricks and tips for making sophisticated cardigans. We learned her techniques for interfacing, binding and buttonholes, for zippers down center front, and for plackets and cording. At the end of the day we were exhausted and our brains were bursting with all the new information, but our smiles went from ear-to-ear because we had the confidence to make beautiful cardigans.
Beautiful designer tee/cardigan sets are in my future. I am just trying to decide which one is first!
We all felt so fortunate that Emma came back and we'll have the designer tee/cardigan twin-sets to prove it!
